Project Overview


As customers’ lives become ever more digital, the need for next-generation digital banking experiences is vital. Banks are under pressure to provide a ubiquitous experience quicker than ever before. Be ready.

With EPAM’s mobile banking platform Nou Bank, established and challenger banks can see how quickly they can innovate to create next-generation banking products and features that exceed customer expectations. Built by our multidisciplinary team in just eight weeks, Nou is a continuously evolving cloud-native proof of concept that demonstrates what’s possible in banking. Watch the video below for a brief overview.


Design Process


The design process took eight months and involved several key phases:

  1. Research & User Analysis: We began by conducting thorough market research and user interviews to understand the unique needs of Hong Kong’s banking customers. This helped us identify key features and functionalities the app should offer.

  2. Design & Prototyping: After gathering insights, we focused on designing a simple, intuitive interface that aligns with local preferences and usability expectations. Multiple iterations of the design were created, ensuring accessibility, local language support, and a clean visual layout.

  3. Development & Testing: During the development phase, we integrated the core banking services with a strong security framework, ensuring the app was both fast and secure. Rigorous testing—across different devices and network conditions—was done to guarantee smooth performance and bug-free functionality.

  4. Feedback & Refinement: Throughout the process, we engaged with stakeholders and real users, collecting feedback on usability and performance. This allowed us to refine the app to meet customer expectations.


Results


The Hong Kong Modern Bank app’s final design delivers an intuitive, efficient banking experience, with features like Smart Budgeting and Goals Tracker to empower users in managing their finances. Multi-language support and secure fingerprint and facial recognition offer accessibility and peace of mind, while subtle Hong Kong-inspired design elements create a sense of local connection. Altogether, the app is more than a financial tool—it’s a trusted, culturally resonant companion tailored to meet the unique needs of Hong Kong users.
