Billionaire App
Designing the Future of Banking: Individual Project
Overview
Three years ago, I embarked on a self-initiated project to create a conceptual banking app called Billionaire. This project aimed to expand my portfolio by showcasing my skills in UI/UX design, design system creation, and the development of cohesive, reusable components.
Project Objective
The goal was to design a modern, user-friendly banking app that:
Offers users insights into their finances.
Creates a seamless experience for managing daily transactions and budgets.
Utilizes a playful yet professional design aesthetic to appeal to young professionals.
Design Process
1. User Research and Personas
Although this was a conceptual project, I simulated the research process by:
Defining target personas such as young professionals and students.
Analyzing competitor apps to identify strengths and pain points.
Listing user needs: intuitive navigation, real-time insights, and an engaging interface.
2. Wireframes and Prototypes
I started with low-fidelity wireframes to outline the app’s core features, such as:
Balance overview and insights.
Budgeting tools.
Transaction history.
After iterations and feedback from peers, I refined the wireframes into a high-fidelity clickable prototype.
3. Design System Creation
A comprehensive design system was created to ensure consistency throughout the app. The design system included:
Typography: Clean, modern sans-serif fonts for readability.
Color Palette: A mix of bold purples and blues for trust and professionalism, complemented by soft gradients for a fresh, modern feel.
Components: Buttons, cards, charts, and input fields, each built with scalability and reuse in mind.
4. Final Design Highlights
Home Screen: Displays the user’s available balance, spending vs. earning overview, and quick access to key actions (transfer, card management, and insights).
Insights Screen: A detailed breakdown of earnings and expenses with a visually appealing chart and transaction list.
Onboarding and Verification: A progress tracker guides users through completing their account setup.
Visual Identity
The app’s branding revolved around a playful but sleek theme. The logo featured a stylized piggy bank, emphasizing financial growth in a relatable way.
Lessons Learned
This project allowed me to:
Deepen my understanding of design systems and component-based design.
Experiment with gradient-based visual styles and interactive elements.
Strengthen my storytelling skills by presenting a complete end-to-end project in my portfolio.
Conclusion
The Billionaire banking app project was a pivotal step in my design journey, showcasing my ability to build a cohesive digital product from the ground up. The design system and reusable components developed during this project remain relevant to my current design work.
